The Only Way is Essex – Pubs, Hen Nights, Live Music & More!

Essex

Hello fellow bloggers!

Yet again I have been AWOL a fair while – this time owing to a combination of work and the dreaded summerholigeddon (2 weeks down, 3 and a half to go!). However I thought I would pop on and share with you one of my ongoing jobs that I am absolutely loving at the moment!

A while back now I started a contract providing blog posts for a website called iHeartEssex which is all about, yep you guessed it – Essex (UK for any of my readers across the puddle or the pond!). Its a fantastic website which looks at all of the best social aspects of life in Essex including the best pubs, clubs, restaurants, events, live music venues and more.

With the popularity of a reality TV show known as TOWIE (The Only Way Is Essex) we also decided to focus on how to do a girls night out TOWIE style by visiting some of the salons, restaurants and clubs featured in the show. This blog post has been way popular so I thought I would share that, and a couple of the others, here with you. If you want to give them a sneaky share yourself then that would be awesome too 😉

Hopefully once the gruesome twosome are back to school then I can get back to my regularly scheduled programming!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hello and it’s a c-word kinda week!

I know I’ve been neglecting my blog lately and honestly, I’ve barely had time for a bath (sorry to those locals about the smell!) let alone write something on here. Coincidentally I am writing this whilst in the bath… I can hear the sighs of relief across Kent!
Anyway it’s been a bit of a c-word week. No not that c-word, a week of needing to hire many c-words… Namely a cook, a cleaner, a childminder and a chiropractor because I have spent so long sat at my desk! And, as my friend pointed out a cocktail maker would be quite handy too. I wonder if I could also get away with a chocolate delivery company, a crepe maker, a cloning machine and Channing Tatum…! Anyway I digress, sadly I cannot afford any of these things.

As you can probably surmise I have been extremely busy with work. I have been working on a rather large veterinary website content project this week which has taken up a lot of my time. I have also won a contract writing for a fantastic local website which I am really excited about, and I have been recommended to a colleague of an existing client that had a new project to work on. So all in all things are going really well here, I just need to find some time to put some content on my own website!

I haven’t forgotten cutting the string either and am currently working hard to shift the extra pounds I put on whilst on holiday. I will do an update on that shortly!

Thanks for stopping by!

All in a days work for a mother & writer

So when I started freelance writing I naively thought to myself that working from home in the school holidays was a huge benefit, and whilst I appreciate that I have saved precious money on childcare, I fear I may well spend said savings on wine, chocolate and dye to cover the grey hairs it is causing!

So far today I have finished sexing up an article about payment gateways (yes really!), played several games of snakes and ladders, broken up countless fights, poured multiple drinks, provided multiple snacks, come up with titles for the chapters of my latest eBook and responded to a load of emails.

Once I have fed the small people who are currently engrossed in How to Train your Dragon 2 and demanding yet more nourishment, I have to  start writing sections for a website for a client based in Dubai, rotate another load of laundry, no doubt break up countless more fights and arguments, write some more articles…. oh and help my 8yr old with her “predator” project for half term for which she wants to make a clay tarantula.

I have thus decided that MY lunch time will be spent researching summer playschemes, and shares in Blossom Hill, Chloroform and Duct Tape.

All in a days work for a mother and writer, now I need to go and get my washing in as it has just started raining again….!

Career achievement

Hurrah! Had a fab email today letting me know that I am now “Top Rated” on oDesk which is the freelancing site I use to source some of my work.

I’m pretty chuffed really as I’ve only been on oDesk a few months, but I’ve had some great feedback and some really interesting clients to work for, so I wanted to share / brag (hey at least I’m honest about it lol!)

Whilst I’m in a gloating mood I’ll share a couple of other feedback pics too….

So see there really is a good reason why I have been neglecting my blog – I’ve been busy being awesome!! 😜😜

Freelancer Life!

I have realised I have been completely neglecting my blog lately, but I promise you it is for a good reason! Since I officially made Freelance Writing my full time career (ok, well not quite full time, but with a house to run and a husband and two kids to look after there doesn’t appear to be much time that I’m not running around like a headless chicken!), life has been even more manic than usual. Don’t get me wrong, I am supremely grateful that I have a job that allows me to sit in my pjs with my hair a mess and no-one knows. I am grateful that I don’t have a horrible commute. I am beyond grateful that I don’t have to get involved in office politics and can be my own boss.

But DAMN, no one tells you how hard this whole “setting up a business” malarkey really is! There is loads of paperwork, loads of things to set up…. and no one pays you for all that! Not to mention the actual work, which is coming in thick and fast. I took on a new client this week that I am very excited to be working with, and they will require two pieces of work each week. On top of my “regulars”! I am also currently working on an eBook for one of my long-term clients, which is a huge HUGE project. I have written nearly 8000 words for that this week alone!

I am currently in the process of sorting out my new website, which I am very excited about. It’s just taking a little longer than I expected, in part because I am a wee bit of a technophone, and also because I am just struggling for the time to do it! Fear not, I will post links up to it when I have finished.

In the meantime, I thought I would share links to my latest published pieces on SoundBodyLife and Feedmybaby

I really hope to get back to my regularly scheduled blogging really soon! Be good without me!

March: this month I will…

Is it just me? I cannot believe we are already in March, where has the last three months gone? I mean I am absolutely longing for sunshine, flip flops, bbqs and balmy Sunday afternoons walking along by the seafront. I literally cannot wait! But I still can’t get my head around the fact that it is March. It’s quite frightening how quickly the year goes. And it also reminded me of some of my plans for this year that have gone by the wayside, so there are some things that I need to get back on track with…. and that has inspired this little blog post.

So, this month I WILL…….

1. Get back on track with C25K. As many of you who follow this blog will know, I started C25K at the start of February and completed the first week, and started the second. Then I managed to strain a muscle and was advised to take a break. And then it was half term so I was unable to get the time to start again. Well, we’ve got another 4 weeks until the kids break up for Easter so I am determined to start again this week – and this time do the whole lot outdoors. So tomorrow I am going to start C25K from the very beginning again and make sure I manage at least the first 4 weeks. And then I will just have to find the time to go when the kids are off.

2. Crack on with another little side project I have going on. Can’t say too much about this one, but its something I have been meaning to do for a long time. It’s one of those things that I am just not sure how to actually start though. But I can’t keep putting it off, I need to take action!

3. Remember to do my toning exercises – every day! No excuses! I’m trying to do a few moves to tone up my bum, tum and upper arms and apparently the key is to do them every day. It only takes 15 min so I need to make the time!

4. Blitz our wardrobes ready for summer. A massive clear out. We have too much stuff!

5. Clean the oven……… meh!

Okay I have declared them all here so that means I have to do them! Starting with the exercises…… after I’ve persuaded myself to move off the sofa!
