#5in5

So recently I overheard a conversation that basically went, if you could achieve 5 things in the next 5 years what would they be? I thought it would be a great topic for a blog post.

So I thought about it… and thought about it and thought about it. I’m the sort of person that is always looking forwards. I want to do and see so much, and whilst I am happy and grateful for my life I can’t help but think about the other things that I haven’t done yet.

Since I had my kids though, the majority of the things that I want to see and do involve the small but oh so important people in my life. I want them to have as many opportunities and experiences as possible. Which leads me nicely onto the first thing on my #5in5 list.

1. Take my kids to Florida

Easily at the top spot for me is a trip to see Mickey and friends in the Florida sunshine. I am lucky enough to have been to Disneyland Paris already. I went as a teenager and single adult, we took the kids back in 2014 and we have booked a surprise trip for them this year too. But there is SO much more at Florida that goes alongside Disney – Epcot, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, Wet n Wild…. the list is extensive, and it would be a .. well I don’t want to say once in a lifetime as I’ve heard you need to go at least twice to really do EVERYTHING.. but an incredible experience that I would love to have with my kids whilst they are still young enough to appreciate the magic. If I had to pick one holiday to have with my kids, that would be it!

2. Grow my business

It is still less than a year since I started freelance writing and my business has already taken off quicker than I could have imagined. I am lucky enough to have a regular network of great clients, fantastic referral rates and have worked on some really interesting projects. I have also had the opportunity to diversify into other areas. However I would love to be able to continue to grow and develop my business in the next 5 years and perhaps get into the realms of expanding? Who knows!

3. Learn to swim

You may or may not know that I still can’t swim and I am absolutely petrified of the water. Countless people have offered to teach me and countless people have failed. Part of me thinks, you know what, I’ve got to 33 without being able to swim I’ll just not bother, but part of me would really like to learn. I think this is a pipeline dream though, I honestly don’t think I will get over my fear enough to achieve it!

4. Move house

It would definitely have to be right at the end of the 5 years, but I would like to think about moving to a nicer area and get a house with a proper study – which may be vital is my business does grow! I do love a lot of things about my house now, and I absolutely hate moving, but it would be nice to be in a safer area so I’m less worried about when the time comes for the kids to get the bus to secondary school and go out with their mates and stuff!

5. Have another baby

I really want to expand my family again…. Kidding! Sorry had to put that in case my mother-in-law or hubby reads this… love to keep them on their toes! No that ship has well and truly sailed! My real number 5 however…

5. I would like to do more for charity

We put our hands in our pockets quite regularly when it comes to supporting various charities, but I would definitely like to start making a more hands-on effort, starting this year.  In July I plan to run the Race for Life: Pretty Muddy  as part of a team of girls who want to raise money for Cancer Research – a cause particularly close to my heart since once of my best friends was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the end of 2015.

The R4L:PM is going to be the first in what I intend to become regular fundraising efforts that I make over the coming years.

So that about sums it up, my #5in5. I’m interested to hear yours?!

The Only Way is Essex – Pubs, Hen Nights, Live Music & More!

Essex

Hello fellow bloggers!

Yet again I have been AWOL a fair while – this time owing to a combination of work and the dreaded summerholigeddon (2 weeks down, 3 and a half to go!). However I thought I would pop on and share with you one of my ongoing jobs that I am absolutely loving at the moment!

A while back now I started a contract providing blog posts for a website called iHeartEssex which is all about, yep you guessed it – Essex (UK for any of my readers across the puddle or the pond!). Its a fantastic website which looks at all of the best social aspects of life in Essex including the best pubs, clubs, restaurants, events, live music venues and more.

With the popularity of a reality TV show known as TOWIE (The Only Way Is Essex) we also decided to focus on how to do a girls night out TOWIE style by visiting some of the salons, restaurants and clubs featured in the show. This blog post has been way popular so I thought I would share that, and a couple of the others, here with you. If you want to give them a sneaky share yourself then that would be awesome too 😉

Hopefully once the gruesome twosome are back to school then I can get back to my regularly scheduled programming!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hello and it’s a c-word kinda week!

I know I’ve been neglecting my blog lately and honestly, I’ve barely had time for a bath (sorry to those locals about the smell!) let alone write something on here. Coincidentally I am writing this whilst in the bath… I can hear the sighs of relief across Kent!
Anyway it’s been a bit of a c-word week. No not that c-word, a week of needing to hire many c-words… Namely a cook, a cleaner, a childminder and a chiropractor because I have spent so long sat at my desk! And, as my friend pointed out a cocktail maker would be quite handy too. I wonder if I could also get away with a chocolate delivery company, a crepe maker, a cloning machine and Channing Tatum…! Anyway I digress, sadly I cannot afford any of these things.

As you can probably surmise I have been extremely busy with work. I have been working on a rather large veterinary website content project this week which has taken up a lot of my time. I have also won a contract writing for a fantastic local website which I am really excited about, and I have been recommended to a colleague of an existing client that had a new project to work on. So all in all things are going really well here, I just need to find some time to put some content on my own website!

I haven’t forgotten cutting the string either and am currently working hard to shift the extra pounds I put on whilst on holiday. I will do an update on that shortly!

Thanks for stopping by!

Career achievement

Hurrah! Had a fab email today letting me know that I am now “Top Rated” on oDesk which is the freelancing site I use to source some of my work.

I’m pretty chuffed really as I’ve only been on oDesk a few months, but I’ve had some great feedback and some really interesting clients to work for, so I wanted to share / brag (hey at least I’m honest about it lol!)

Whilst I’m in a gloating mood I’ll share a couple of other feedback pics too….

So see there really is a good reason why I have been neglecting my blog – I’ve been busy being awesome!! 😜😜

Freelancer Life!

I have realised I have been completely neglecting my blog lately, but I promise you it is for a good reason! Since I officially made Freelance Writing my full time career (ok, well not quite full time, but with a house to run and a husband and two kids to look after there doesn’t appear to be much time that I’m not running around like a headless chicken!), life has been even more manic than usual. Don’t get me wrong, I am supremely grateful that I have a job that allows me to sit in my pjs with my hair a mess and no-one knows. I am grateful that I don’t have a horrible commute. I am beyond grateful that I don’t have to get involved in office politics and can be my own boss.

But DAMN, no one tells you how hard this whole “setting up a business” malarkey really is! There is loads of paperwork, loads of things to set up…. and no one pays you for all that! Not to mention the actual work, which is coming in thick and fast. I took on a new client this week that I am very excited to be working with, and they will require two pieces of work each week. On top of my “regulars”! I am also currently working on an eBook for one of my long-term clients, which is a huge HUGE project. I have written nearly 8000 words for that this week alone!

I am currently in the process of sorting out my new website, which I am very excited about. It’s just taking a little longer than I expected, in part because I am a wee bit of a technophone, and also because I am just struggling for the time to do it! Fear not, I will post links up to it when I have finished.

In the meantime, I thought I would share links to my latest published pieces on SoundBodyLife and Feedmybaby

Hope you enjoy them!

I really hope to get back to my regularly scheduled blogging really soon! Be good without me!

One giant leap for the bantam….

man_on_the_moon

Okay, in the grand scheme of things it is probably not a big deal. In face to some of you it’s probably not any sort of excitement…. however, today, I finally, for the very first time, applied for a couple of writing jobs on odesk (as kindly referred to me by my new cat-crazy friend Tom ~ “Hi Tom”). Just some article-writing type jobs, but still, a big “eeeeeeeeek”! I feel a bit like Neil Armstrong might have felt when he landed on the moon, except heavier!

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any expectation of actually GETTING them, after all I am relatively new to all this and just starting out. But at the same time, I feel like by at least applying I am putting myself out there – that I want, no damn it – WILL – write for a living in the future. Hopefully just not a distant future!

I guess all it really takes is someone to give me a break. What’s the saying, “don’t be shy, give ME a try”!

Now I just need to keep expanding my portfolio of work, but first – another cuppa!
